Based on a Batman supervillain who, despite making his first comic appearance in 1940, is relatively little-known, Clayface shows us how a handsome, successful movie star becomes a shapeshifting lump of putty that knows how to hold a grudge. Its characterisation is nonexistent and storytelling weak at best, but it’s a ton of fun, with some delicious body horror that makes us both squirm, and an energetic expression of what someone might allow themselves to do if given power and invisibility. Go in with low expectations and it’ll confound them.
